Fat Cats
(April 15, 2009)
This one was published in the UAW’s magazine Solidarity and points out a contradiction I saw during the financial crisis of late 2008-2009. Unions were told that they had to re-negotiate their contacts because their companies could not afford to live up to them; but the contracts signed with corporate executives — some of whom were themselves responsible for the financial mess — were sacred and could not be broken.
