Coming Soon: Fire & Ice

I used to be a fairly regular con-goer, but recently I’ve only been going to one:  a local gaming convention called Fire & Ice.  It’s held every February in Manitowoc, WI; about a half-hour drive from where I live.  I’m going to be running several games this year and will have a dealer’s table with my wife Lute where I will be doing sketches when I’m not rolling dice.  And in all likelihood working on the next chapter of Hannibal Tesla.

If you’re interested in meeting a real live ninja cartoonist, or running in one of my games, and you think you can be in Eastern Wisconsin on the last weekend in February, come to the Manitowoc Expo Center in Manitowoc, WI; February 25-27th.  I’ll be there.

Problem Solved!

I figured out why I couldn’t get the image for “I’m Hungry” in the Commissions Gallery to show.  It was a formatting problem.  When I color in PhotoShop I have the habit of doing it in CYMK mode rather than RBG mode.  My background is in print, so I’m used to thinking in printing colors.  Yeah, I’m a dinosaur.

(If you’re curious, CYMK stands for Cyan, Yellow, Magenta & Black; the four standard ink colors used in printing.  Colors on a computer screen are painted with light, not ink, and use three base colors:  Red, Blue and Green.  See?  This blog is educational as well as entertaining!)

All of the images I had previously uploaded were either black & white, or had already been colored before I scanned them so were automatically scanned in RBG mode.  The I’m Hungry image was the first one I tried uploading that I had actually colored in PhotoShop.

It seems that WordPress doesn’t like CYMK; so I’ll have to make sure I convert any colored art files to the proper format in the future.  Ah well.  At least I now know what the problem was.

I’ve updated Hannibal Tesla and will add a new page every day until I chew through my backlog.  Once I get the strip caught up, I will update once per week.  I’m also adding some commentary to the strips when I think I have something interesting to say about it.

And if you have anything to add, whether questions, comments or snarky remarks, feel free to use the Comment button.  I live for feedback.

New Year’s Resolution

It’s the New Year and I am slowly assembling the pieces of my website.  Although the webcomic isn’t in it’s ideal form, I think it’s good enough that I’m going to start filling in the backlog.  I have 77 installments of it so far, so I’m going to post them a bit at a time until I get caught up; then I hope to update it on a weekly basis.

I’m having some formatting issues in the Gallery section, but once again, I’ve decided to just bull through and put stuff up.  At the moment I have the Portraits and the Commissions Galleries up.  One image from the Commissions section is giving me trouble and keeps showing up as a broken link.  I may just leave it out.

Sticking In My Big Toe

Yes, this is going slowly.

I put up the first chapter of Hannibal Tesla today.  And I see that I’m going to have to futz with the page formatting already.  Curses.

Work In Progress

Eventually, this is going to be a website.

Well, technically it already is; but at the moment it’s more framework and format than anything of actual interest.  But that will change.

Chiefly, this site will be the new home of my webcomic, Hannibal Tesla Adventure Magazine, a high-flying pulp adventure about a two-fisted scientist and his amazing associates.  (Any resemblence between him and a certain Man of Bronze are not terribly surprising).  Hannibal originally ran as a weekly strip on ComicSpace, and has also run at Abandoned Towers.  With the changes in format at ComicSpace, I’ve decided to give Hannibal a home of his own.

This site is also going to contain galleries of my artwork:  cartoons, “furry art”, caricatures and other commissions.

As I expand this, I may also include some of my written work as well:  filk, commentary and short fiction.  Heck, I might actually use this site to blog.  Wouldn’t that be a concept.

But for the moment, I’m just getting started.  Consider this post as an ominous portent of Things To Come
